Waters & Services:
New Mexico Season; New Mexico is blessed with a longer window of good trout fishing than more northern states. Some years--when conditions are right--a spectacular caddis hatch occurs on the Rio Grande in April. During runoff (May into June) stream fishing is very good from Taos on a couple of tail water streams. And Eagle Nest Lake near Angel Fire is excellent then for big rainbows. By mid-June all streams are in great condition and the best hatches of the year can be expected.  This is prime time for the Chama area ant the truly fabulous private water of the upper Brazos. The Rio Grande generally fishes best Sept.- Nov but will be good all summer in dry years.

Winter fishing: The lower Red River is a spring fed stream that fishes well throughout the winter. It is the main spawning grounds for both rainbow and brown trout of the Rio Grande. When planning a ski trip set aside a day to fish the lower Red, as there is nothing like seeing rising trout in front of a snow bank! We often fish trout a half day in winter and then try for pike in the Rio Grande in the afternoon.

New Mexico Day rates: $350 for 1, $395 for 2, $465 for 3. Includes lunch. Half day rate is $250 for one and $50 per ea additional. Rental gear is also available from Taos Fly Shop. For Taylor’s instructional ½ day-add $75 to half day rate. (All plus N.M. tax) Deposit of 50% required to confirm date. Streit Fly fishing is insured and Permitted by the U. S. Forest Service, B.L.M., Eagle Nest Lake and the state of Colorado.
